Just Sitting
Shikantaza, just sitting, is the practice the Zen master Dōgen taught in the thirteenth century: sit fully, with no goal beyond the sitting itself. The armored warrior has settled cross-legged with no sword in sight, hands folded in his lap and eyes lowered beneath the horned helmet. All the weight of the armor seems to rest easily on him.

Grey Armor, Red Cords, Falling Drips
Grey washes and black ink shape each plate and row of lacing, while red picks out the helmet crest, the chest cords, and the shoulder guards. Spatter drifts off to one side, and thin drips run down from where he sits toward the bottom edge.
