All Things Pass
The Tale of the Heike opens with temple bells and a reminder that nothing lasts, shogyō mujō, all things are impermanent. Head lowered, the swordsman breaks apart into fragments like old plaster, yet his posture holds while the surface cracks around him. Accepting change, the image suggests, is its own kind of strength.

Halftone Dots and a Column of Red
Fine halftone dots give the figure the feel of a weathered print, and pale fault lines run across kimono and shoulders. A column of red brush marks resembling calligraphy runs down one side and ends in a bold red blot, the only warm note against charcoal and cream.

A Spotlight and a Leather Sofa
Concrete floors, a leather sofa, and a black side table give it plenty to work with in a man cave or compact city flat. A single spotlight is all it needs. Cracks come to everything; what matters is how you stand while they spread.
