Armor Kept for Those Who Come After
In many Japanese homes, decorative armor is still set out each May for Children's Day, a wish that the young will grow strong and be protected. Here the suit stands empty and facing forward, less a portrait of one warrior than an emblem of everyone who wore such armor before. Legacy is whatever survives long enough to be handed on, worn by time yet whole.

Rust, Lacquer, and Falling Lines
Weathered orange and silver plates, a towering crest, and a stern face mask emerge from deep black, arranged with an almost ceremonial symmetry. Vertical streaks run down the surface like rain on an old storehouse wall, and speckled rust and grunge textures give the whole image the feel of a relic recovered and put on display.

A Presence Above the Hearth
Its symmetry makes a strong centerpiece above a fireplace mantel, in a family room, or in a wood-paneled cigar lounge. Dark leather, iron, and aged brass bring out its burnt-orange tones. Armor like this was made to outlast its owners, and it still looks the part.
